TACAWA celebrates its 40th anniversary

Turkish American Cultural Association of Washington (TACAWA) celebrated its 40th anniversary on January 14th.

There are more than 10,000 people with Turkish heritage living in the state of Washington and for the last 40 years, TACAWA has been working to bring the Turkish American community together to create events and activities.

TACAWA organizes events such as the International Children’s Friendship Festival, Turkish Cultural Festival-Turkfest, Seattle Turkish Film Festival, Turkish Book Club, Turkish Republic Day & Ataturk Weekend and works closely with TACCINW to promote and represent Turkey in the Pacific Northwest region.

More than 200 attendees came to share the joy of celebrating the accomplishments over the last 40 years. The event included dinner, entertainment and a program to celebrate the work of volunteers, and present upcoming projects and plans. The following awards were presented during the event:

– Distinguished Service Award
– “Our Bright Future” Awards
– Long Time Dedication Appreciation
– Special Thanks” Recognition for former presidents, institutions and individuals

Ahmet Serkan and Hande Gençörnek were the special guests from Turkey and performed Turkish music after the award ceremony and entertained the guests.

TACAWA president and TACCINW board member John U. Gokcen hosted the event and TACCINW was recognized for its efforts to increase the bilateral trade potential and investment levels between Turkey and the Pacific Northwest United States. TACCINW President Kurt G. Olcer accepted the award on behalf of the TACCINW organization.

TACCINW looks forward to working with TACAWA in the future to continue to represent and promote Turkey, Turkish people and businesses in the Pacific Northwest.
